The son of my ancestors, JOHN JACOB & EVA CATHERINE (WINTZ) BALTZELL, he took the oath of allegiance in 1778 in Frederick Co., MD.
From REVOLUTIONARY PATRIOTS OF FREDERICK, MD 1776-1783 by Henry C. Peden, Jr.:
"Major Charles Baltzell, died at his farm near Woodbrough on Dec 31, 1813, aged 77. He was a native of Germany and his youth served several campaigns in the Seven Years War. He subsequently emigrated to this country and settled in Maryland. He was a soldier in the Rev. War from the beginning until the army was disbanded, when he became a member of the Cincinnati."
He was a First Lieut. in Capt. James Johnson's Co. of Militia in 1775 and First Lieut. in the German Regiment in 1776 in Capt. Henry Fister's Co under the command of Col. Hussecker. Capt. Charles Baltzell commanded the Maryland Rife Corpse in 1777 and was a charter member of the Society of the Cincinnati. He recieved bounty land warrant no. 283.330-4 in March, 1800 for his war service.
