Actor. He enjoyed a successful career in British comedy motion pictures during the 1950s and became known for his work in British television, notably in the long-running series "Minder", during the later part of his career. Adopted during his early infancy, he was raised in poverty and left school at the age of fourteen in order to support his family financially. He found a job as a butcher's assistant, prior to answering an ad for a small part in a West Side play. After this experience, he joined a repertory club and was mentored by Alistair Sim. His friendship with Sim led to his motion picture debut at the age of fifteen in "Bombsight Stolen" (1941). Followings his service with the Royal Air Force during World War II, he resumed his career and has memorable performances opposite Sim in the pictures "Laughter in Paradise" (1951) and "A Christmas Carol" (1951). In addition, Cole was identified with the "St. Trinian's" film series playing 'Flash Harry' beginning with "The Belles of St. Trinian's" (1954). He played 'Flavius' opposite Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in extravaganza "Cleopatra" (1963) and co-starred in the Disney film "Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow" (1963).
