Son of W. T. Kirkman, pioneer nurseryman, and Dora Akridge Kirkman.
The family came to Merced from Arkansas in 1888.
Father and son were both nurserymen from boyhood.
The elder Kirkmans retired in Pasadena.
Wm, Jr. remained in the nursery business. Main office was located on the corner O and Tulare Streets, in Fresno, CA.
