Died from burns from an exploding wood alcohol lamp pot. The lamp exploded in the house as her brother was refilling it, and Arkie's clothing ignited.

Initially it was thought that although severely burned, she would survive. Her mother and father stayed with her during the night, and she passed away in the morning of June 4, 1913.

In the photos at left, Arkie is pictured with her younger sister Ocie. All the family photos of the sisters show them together. Ocie Myrtis Burris died at the age of 9 in 1910.
