Frederick Zimmerman was a well-known pioneer and was an early Dodge City settler. In July of 1872, he built his own gunsmithing shop next door to George Hoover's saloon on Front Street. From this business, he also sold general merchandise, lumber, hardware and sporting goods. His business was a success until he died on January 20, 1888.
Zimmermann was known in Dodge for his honesty, his bravery in his diverse dealings with the "rowdies", and his contributions to the community of Dodge City.
