Anna Gilbert, 100 years young and a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Monday morning at the Laurels of Mid Valley in Peckville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gilbert. Born on Sept. 12, 1912, and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Anna worked in the housekeeping department of Mercy Hospital until her retirement at age 83 after more than 50 years of service. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Parish in West Scranton. A Notre Dame athletics fan, her favorite pastime was watching "Judge Judy" daily. A loving woman whose life revolved around her granddaughter and great-granddaughters, she will be dearly missed. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Joan Edmondson on March 25, 2013; sisters, Mary Craver and Eleanor Theis; and brothers, Robert, Joseph and Paul Campbell. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street, Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 9 until services.
