Lyla was born to Charles and Anna Baird Jackson in Hall Township, Bureau County, Ill. on Oct. 22, 1907. She lived on a farm in Bureau County throughout her childhood. On Nov. 25, 1925, she married Edwin O. Ochs in St. Mary's Church in Peru, Ill. Ed and Lyla raised two children. Lyla worked many years as a Red Cross volunteer.
