Jaden lived with his 5-year-old sister, their mother and Guymon, her boyfriend, in a house in the 1200 West block of Eagle Nest Drive (6110 South) in Taylorsville.
Guymon was caring for the children Monday while their mother was at work, police said. A police statement filed with the jail says Guymon told investigators the boy was crying and Guymon placed him in a crib or bed.
Guymon shut the door then opened it again sometime later, the statement says. He yelled at Jaden and the boy fell out of the bed, according to the statement.
Then Guymon claims, according to the statement, he picked up Jaden and threw him. Police said Jaden landed about nine feet from the crib.
But police aren't certain that's what happened. Bass said the statement filed with jail recounts one of multiple statements made by Guymon.
"Some were true and some were not," Bass said.
The state medical examiner took Jaden's body on Tuesday and Bass said detectives are waiting for autopsy results to learn whether the trauma to Jaden is consistent with Guymon's statements.
Guymon called 911 about 7 p.m. The dispatcher reported to police the child was not breathing, Bass said.
A helicopter flew Jaden to Primary Children's Medical Center, but there was a discrepancy Tuesday about whether he died at the hospital or en route.
