Special Agent, U.S. Secret Service. Killed in the line of duty in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Special Agent Brown is memorialized at West Panel 20 Line 10 of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.

Published in the Oklahoma Today magazine, Winter 1996 issue:
Cynthia L. (Cindy) Brown, 26 of OKC, wife of Ron Brown of Portland, OR; daughter of Gary Campbell of Sherman, TX, and Linda McNew Campbell of Rantoul, IL; sister of Ray Campbell of Bolingbrook, IL, and Kim Gradney of Rantoul; sister-in-law of Andrea Campbell of Bolingbrook IL; US Special Agent, US Secret Service.

Forty days before the OKC bombing, Cindy Campbell and Ron Brown - Both special agents in the Secret Service - exchanged vows in Sherman, Texas. Then, after a honey moon in Cancun, Cindy returned to her OKC office and Ron to Phoenix. Both hoped a future transfer would land then in the same city.

A political science graduate of Baylor University and a former juvenile probation officer, Cindy was recruited by the Secret Service after agents dealt with her on a case involving one of her juvenile charges ((the youngster had sent threatening letters to the president). "They saw something in Cindy that (they thought) would make a good Secret Service agent," said her father Gary Campbell.

Uninterested at first, Cindy came around after visiting agency offices in Dallas and hearing more about the job. Once in, she proved a natural. After a night of protection detail for the president in Florida, she confided. "You know, Dad standing out front of the governor's mansion in the middle of the night with it pouring down rain probably doesn't sound like much to some people. But you know, it's really exciting."

Said Mr. Campbell, "She always saw the good in everything. " As a probation officer, Cindy sought counseling for troubled teens and set up family intervention in hopes of improving things at home. She believed education made children successful, and she actually sat with some in class and drove others to and from school. "She'd do it," says a former associate, "If that school official would give them another chance, because she knew if that child dropped out, it was over."
