Civil War Union Soldier. He served during the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company I, 142nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He had enlisted on August 30th 1862 for 3 years, and listed his occupation as Farmer. His Civil War ended on July 16, 1863 in an obscure town in his native state called Gettysburg. He died at the 3rd Division, I Corps Hospital of wounds received in action on the first day of Battle (July 1, 1863). He was buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery in October of 1863 and was 26 years old at the time of his death.

The attached photo is a larger Photo C-1865 made from a smaller CDV photo C-1863. It has a 4 cent tax stamp on the back that is dated February 22 1865. The photographer was James S. Earle & Sons of Philadelphia.
