When Robert Charles Bennett was born on December 14, 1924, in Missouri, his father, Charles, was 21 and his mother, Florence, was 21. He married Erika Millek Bennett Dickson on August 9, 1947, in Kaufbeuren, Bavaria, Germany. They had two children during their marriage. He died as a young father on September 20, 1950, in North Korea at the age of 25, and was buried in Rolla, Missouri.

Robert was a member of the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division and was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 20, 1950.

Sergeant First Class Bennett was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal

He died in Korea serving his country. He served all through WWII, was on Omaha Beach on D-Day, contracted malaria in North Africa, and met Erika in Germany right after the war. They married and returned to the states.

He earned the Bronze Star and Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart. They were both heroes.
