THOMAS J. ALBERGHINI (Age 94)
Of Bethesda, MD, formerly of Peabody, MA, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Negus Alberghini, and son, Scott Negus Alberghini. Thomas is survived by his daughter-in-law, Christina Alberghini, grandson, Michael Alberghini (Jennifer), granddaughter, Cara Alberghini and several nieces and nephews. Thomas was a member of the 1942 Holy Cross football team that upset the #1 ranked Boston College Eagles at Fenway Park. Thomas was named a second and third team All American, and played in the East West Shrine game. He was inducted to the Holy Cross College Football Hall of Fame, and played one year in the National Football League for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thomas was a Marine Corps veteran serving in WWII, and was awarded the Silver Star and two Purple Hearts. Thomas was employed by Montgomery County Public Schools and served as the Athletic Director at Walter Johnson High School from 1957 to 1982. A celebration of Thomas' life will be held at Rock Creek Mansion (Knights of Columbus), 5417 West Cedar Lane Bethesda, MD 20814 on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
