Professional Football Player. For twelve seasons (1961 to 1972), he played at the middle-linebacker position in the American and National Football Leagues with the San Diego Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles. Born Charles Richard Allen, he attended Cle Elum High School in Washington and played collegiate football at the University of Washington. While with the Huskies, he was a member of Washington's two teams which captured the Rose Bowl title (1961 and 1962). Selected by the Chargers during the 28th round of the 1961 AFL Draft, he totaled 144 career AFL and NFL games. In 1963, he experienced a world championship when San Diego captured the AFL Title. Individually, he distinguished himself when he achieved all star status twice (1963 and 1964). After retiring as a player, he served as director of player personnel and later assistant general manager with the Seattle Seahawks for two decades beginning in 1975.
