Horst "Huck" Adelt 1921 ~ 2008 Huck Adelt, age 86, of St. George, (Bloomington) Utah, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2008 surrounded by his family. Huck was born in Koenigsberg, East Prussia on Dec. 23, 1921. He came to this county in 1926 with his brother, Gerhard and mother, Mary. They were converts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Huck was involved in athletics a great deal of his life. While at Bryant Jr. High, he won the Deseret News City Junior Pentathlon games setting a new point record in the process. While at East High School he was captain of the basketball team and an All City performer on the football team. In track he set a new school and city shot put record. Huck pitched East to the city baseball championship. He struck out 20 batters in the championship game against West High School. He attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship. He was student body vice president and quarterback on the football team. He was the Ute's first "T" formation quarterback when the team changed from the single wing formation in 1941. He was selected to Liberty Magazines all area team, and 3rd team UPI All American. Huck was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and was chosen for the national publication of the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Huck joined the Navy in 1942 and became a Naval Aviator. He served in the African-European Campaign flying patrol bombers, anti-submarine warfare. After the war, he graduated from the U. of U., (BA) with a secondary teaching certificate, and has many hours of graduate work. During this time he played pro-football in the old Pacific Coast League. Huck became a counselor at the Division of Rehabilitation Services, State Office of Education in 1962. He won the national "Elkins" award for the state, and rehabilitation counselor of the year. He later became counselor supervisor and district supervisor for South Ogden-Farmington, Morgan areas. He retired in 1983. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Bloomington Country Club. He was also active in prospecting and mining. He is survived by his wife, La Juana P. Adelt; two daughters, Katherine (Rick) Farrow, South Ogden; Karen (Charles) Primich, Park City; grandchildren, Karlie, Calley, and one great-grandchild, Alec. He is preceded in death by his son, Kent Adelt. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at 12 noon at the Riverton City Cemetery, 13200 So. 1500 W. where friends and family are welcome.
