Becker's other films include "It Happened at the Inn" (1943), "Antoine and Antoinette" (1947), Rendezvous in July" (1949), "Ali Baba" (1954), "The Adventures of Arsene Lupin" (1957), and "Montparnasse 19" (1958). Becker was born in Paris. He became interested in the cinema in 1931 after meeting American director King Vidor, and worked as an assistant on some of Jean Renoir's greatest films, among them "The Grand Illusion" (1937) and "The Rules of the Game" (1939). After several false starts he directed his first feature in 1942. A painstaking craftsman, Becker completed only 13 films before his death.
