US Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent New York's 27th District in the US House of Representatives, he served from 1837 to 1839. He did not seek reelection in 1838. Andrews was born into a well-to-do family near Schoharie Creek, New York. He attended the district school and was privately tutored, but chose the mercantile field over higher education. His only other public offices were as Justice of the Peace and Sheriff of Steuben County, from 1836 to 1837. After leaving Congress he purchased an estate in Dundee, New York, and the rest of his long life was largely devoted to its upkeep.
