Staff Sgt. Kristopher D. Rodgers of Sturgis, Michigan was a 1998 graduate of Lakeland High School in LaGrange, Indiana. He was an avid sports fan and followed the Chicago Bears, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Detroit Red Wings among others. He seem to know the stats of every team. He also enjoyed food, fishing and playing golf. He entered the Army in November 2002 as an infantryman. Serving in the Army for about eight years, he toured Iraq before leaving for Afghanistan.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation with distinguishing device "V", Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Air Assault Badge and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

His father, Grandfathers; James Smith and Bill Rodgers and brother-in-law; Shaun Reaper preceded him in death.

Kristopher died at age 29 in Korengal, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He leaves a wife and their 3 year old son.
