My cousin Ryan was an amazing guy. He was always the level headed one out of all of us and kept his brother and I and our other cousins from killing ourselves (and rolling the trampoline around the house to jump into the pool from).
On July 27, 2007 we got the word that he was Missing in Action. We were all shocked and horrified because when you hear those words you know. They found his body on July 29, 2007. He was 23 years old when he died. His headstone and death certificate read the 29th as his DOD because that is when they found his body but he was killed on the 27th.
He enjoyed playing basketball, riding 4-wheelers, listening to country music, playing golf and being outdoors. He joined the Army in 2002, soon after graduating, and was promoted to sergeant in April 2005. He was selected in 2005 to be part of President Bush's inaugural procession in Washington, D.C., as a member of the Old Guard, the Army's oldest active-duty infantry unit.

One brave young man in a distant land,
Knew it was time to take his stand.
In answer to the dread command,
It was as if God had it planned.
To know that more lives would be spared,
He gave his own-because he cared;
That others lived through war and foe,
For God and Country he must go!
No time to think of his own life,
His family, friends and a living wife.
The call had come-a finale grand,
For one brave young man in a distant land.
Mission accomplished one could do no more.
The Ship has launched on a perfect shore.
And now the Captain holds the hand
Of one brave young soul in the promised land.
