Peter Backes, aged 91 years, one of the oldest residents of Richmond, died there at 12:30 p.m. Monday at his home. He was born September, 1842, in Nunkirchen, Sarbrueken Trier, Germany, and came to America at the age of 17 years, and resided for a time east of Richmond, going later to Farming where he operated a farm until 1903 when he retired and made his home in Richmond.
The survivors are Mrs. Backes, and the following children: Henry, Joseph and Mrs. Mary Evans, Farming; John and Mrs. Andrew Nett, St. Henry, N.D.; Michael of Richmond; and Mrs. B.J. Willenbring, of St. Cloud.
The funeral services will be held this Thursday morning at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic church and internment will be made in the Richmond cemetery.
