Horace was one of ten children born to Isaac Farmer Wilson and Mary Richardson Wilson. He grew up on a farm in Campbell County, Tenn. On Jan. 4, 1914, Horace married Dessie (Lucy Odessa) Hatmaker.

Horace and Dessie lived in Campbell County, Tenn. and raised 10 children. Later in life, he and his wife moved to Pensacola, Fla.
