Mary L. Darling, wife of William Darling, who lived near Perryville, died last week Thursday morning at an Oneida hospital. She was born in Canastota 32 years ago, a daughter of William and Electa New [sic] Morris. Her husband and four small children, the oldest aged 12 survive. The funeral was held Saturday and burial made in Lenox Rural Cemetery.

The four surviving children, Herbert, Frederick, George, and Belden were all listed in the 1920 Census in Fenner, Madison County, NY, taken January 2 & 3, 1920.

After Mary died, William put (all or some of) his children in an orphanage. The 1925 New York State Census lists George and Belden at the Onondaga Orphans Home in Syracuse (960 Salt Spring Road). There is a Fred Darling living in Manlius with Fred and Lizzie Robbins.

Belden was taken in by Forrest and Flora Kellogg Whitmarsh in 1930, and took their name.

No further information has been found for Herbert.
