Anne was born in England, probably in or near Cranbrook, Kent. Her family name and parents are unknown at this time. About 1556, again probably in Cranbrook, she married James Bigge, a prosperous clothier. They moved to Capell, in Kent and had at least three children there. In May of 1562, James became ill and wrote his will. He must have died soon thereafter, because the will was proved in May, 1563. Anne had a daughter just after the death of her husband. It is not known if Anne remarried, but James left her as a very wealthy widow at a very young age.

Anne may have been the sister of George and William Saxbie, who were named as uncles in the will of John Scotchford. Scotchford married James’ posthumous daughter Elizabeth.
