Jay was the son of John and Mary (Braun) Babcock. He married Anna Maude (Smith) in 1911 and together they had two children: William Henry and Anna Maude.

Jay J. Babcock, 88, of Novato, Calif., lived in Bridger, Belfry and Bearcreek until the early 1930’s, when he came to Billings to work for the federal government. He died Sunday in Novato.
He was with Weight and Measures Division in Washington D.C. until 1950, when he retired and moved to California.
The town of Bridger is located on his family’s former homestead. He was born Jan. 3, 1889, in Bridger, and married Anna Maude Smith in 1909, also of Bridger.
Survivors include the widow and a daughter, Anna Babcock, both of Novato; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fay Babcock of 230 Ave. D; and a grandson.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Bridger Cemetery, Michelotti-Sawyers West Chapel in charge.
