Jazz Musician. Born Josef Erich Zawinul in Vienna, Austria. He was a pianist and keyboardist best known for his collaboration with Miles Davis during the late 1960s on such recordings as "Bitches Brew", "Live Evil" and "In a Silent Way". Zawinul was credited with helping pioneer the jazz fusion music style, and he also gained acclaim as a founding member of the 1970s and 1980s music group Weather Report. In the course of his 50-year career he performed with such artists as Cannonball Adderley and Dinah Washington. In addition to being a musician, he was also an accomplished composer.
