Blanche is my great-grandmother. After her fiance Joe Marsh died in 1918 due to an appendix rupture and failed surgery, Blanche attended nursing school at St. Joseph's Hospital. Once her training was complete, she worked as a registered nurse at Wisconsin General Hospital in Madison, WI. She also worked as a private duty nurse for some years (during the 30s, primarily, given that at the time married women were not supposed to work as nurses).
