Roger L. Ayers, 70, died Monday at Kennebec Valley Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in Augusta, a son of Leigh and Julia Rogers Ayers, attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School. Mr. Ayers served in the Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He worked for the National Grange Mutual Liability Insurance Co. and was an accountant for Central Maine Power Co. He then worked for Kennebec Savings Bank in 1960. In 1967 he was named executive director of the Maine Bankers Association. After retirement he remained active in the association. He was a member of the Elks Club, a past member and treasurer of the Manchester Lions Club, a past member of the Manchester School Board, the National Grange and the Manchester Community Church. He enjoyed golfing. Mr. Ayers was a companion of Sally Bartram. His wife, Jean Thompson Ayers, died in 1994. Surviving are two sons, Marshall T. Ayers and Nathan Roger Ayers, both of Manchester; two daughters, Cynthia LeBlanc of Cumberland and Carolyn Bradford of Augusta; a brother, Richard of Sidney; a sister, Eleanor Small of Pinellas Park, [Pinellas Co.], FL; and five grandchildren.
