Dr. Barlow served in the Naval Air Corps during WWII. He attended Ole Miss and later medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical School and Northwestern in Chicago. In 1963, he moved to Jackson where he practiced radiology.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mary Barlow; and one sibling.

He was survived by his wife, Mary Ann Babington Barlow of Jackson; four children, Jim Barlow, Jr., M.D., Julie Barlow Reynolds, Jeff Barlow and Doug Barlow; four siblings, Montell Beasley, John Barlow, Mavis Fox and David Barlow; and 9 grandchildren.
