George H. Bullen, Jr.

AGE: 85 • Hockessin

Staff Captain George H. Bullen, Jr., 85 of Hockessin, passed away on Monday March 30, 2015 at Brandywine Nursing Home in West Chester, PA. He shared 65 years of marriage with the love of his life, Patricia (Patti) Davies Bullen. George graduated from Conrad High School of Wilmington in 1947 and served in The United States Marine Corp from 1947 to 1950. He was deployed on "The Fargo", "The Midway" and "The Franklin D. Roosevelt". He briefly worked for the B&O Railroad while waiting to get accepted into the Delaware State Police. He joined the Delaware State Police in 1951 and proudly served for 20 years. He was a force to be reckoned with and his reputation preceded him. He was a hard knocks police officer that was remembered by all, "The Good, Bad and the In Between". George worked as a general contractor and then started Bullen Detective Agency from 1975 until 1999. His cases made local and national news; one in particular was featured on Unsolved Murders. He grew up in Richardson Park; his grandparents Aaron and Annie Highfield Burk were a great influence on him and was proud to be a native Delawarean. He was a lifetime member of Five Points Fire Co. and was a member of Diamond State VFW. George was also a Boy Scout Leader, President of the Christiana Lions Club, a big card player and a regular at DAP on Wednesday Nights. He was an avid hunter and made many trips to Colorado and Wyoming to hunt with his sister's family. George spent his summers at Crystal Beach, MD, eating crabs, drinking cold duck, and watching the sunset over Turkey Pointe. He also loved vacationing on St. John USVI. His biggest joy for the past 21 years were his 5 grandchildren.

He was predeceased in death by his daughter, Susan Gail Bullen; parents, Lillian Burk Bullen and George H. Bullen, Sr.; brother, Raymond "Chick" Bullen; and sister, Jeanette Anderson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, George B. Bullen (Jennifer); daughter, Lauren K. Aurillo (David); grandchildren, Annelise, George Leo, Caraline, Nick and Ally; sister, Dianne "Sis" Zickefoose; sister-in-law Barbara Fritz Bullen and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday April 10, 2015 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church where friends may call beginning at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Delaware State Police Museum, 1425 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or St. Marys of the Assumption, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707.
