Atvin C. Beatson, Jr. also known as Attie by his family and closest friends and Al by his fellow employees, died suddenly of a heart attack on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at the age of 55. He was born May 13, 1946.
Retiring in 1985, Attie was a sergeant in the patrol and traffic division of the Wilmington Police Department with a BS degree in criminal justice. Later he was a supervisor for AIG Security for 12 years. Most recently he was a supervisor for Initial Security based at Basell in Wilmington. He was also a participant in the Gift of Life Donor program.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara; his 3 lovely daughters, Kimberly Helms of Newark, DE, Christine Best of Wilmington, DE and Melissa Beatson at home. He is also survived by his 2 wonderful granddaughters, Katie (age 41/2 and daughter of Kimberly and Mark Helms) and Justine (age 4 months and daughter of Christine and Justin Best). Other survivors include his brothers, Howard, Gary, Jim; sister, Dawne; 5 nephews; and 1 niece.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 12 noon Monday, January 28 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 801 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE. Friends may visit with the family 7-9 pm Sunday, January 27 and again 10:30-11:30 am Monday, January 28 at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St., New Castle.
In memory of Mr. Beatson, the family suggests contributions to the Wilmington Police/Fire Pension Task Force, PO Box 310, Nassau, DE 19969.
