Edward A. Sylwestrzuk Age 72 of New Castle, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 31, 2003 surrounded by his loving family. Ed had devoted his life to Police work and public safety. He had joined the Wilmington City Police Department in December of 1953. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1960, Lieutenant in 1967, Captain in 1969 and Inspector in August of 1971 where he retired on February 15, 1974. Afterwhich, he had become administrative assistant to commissioner of public safety Norman Levine, and he retired February 18, 1998. Ed had been an expert marksman with pistol and rifle and had been involved in many competitions in police departments in the surrounding states. Ed served in the US Marine Corps as a sergeant during the Korean conflict. He had received the Korean service medal with 6 clusters, the UN service medal and the purple heart.
