"Stephen Braddock was born in 1841 to Adam and Eliza Braddock in South Carolina. By 1850, he and his family moved to Tippah County, Mississippi, and settled on a farm. On March 17, 1862, Stephen enlisted in the Confederate Army and mustered into the 32nd Mississippi Infantry at age 21. He was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia in September 1863 but returned to the ranks by October 25, 1863. When his original enlistment expired, Braddock reenlisted on February 6, 1864. On November 30, 1864, Braddock, as part of Brig. Gen. Mark Lowrey's Brigade of Maj. Gen. Patrick Cleburne's Division, took part in the assault on the Federal defenses at Franklin.
