Baptised on the 2nd of February 1890 at Saint John's in Upper Norwood.

1901 Census: Living with parents and 6 siblings at 42 Whitehorse Road in South Norwood.

1911 Census: Living at 42 Whitehorse Lane with parents, 3 siblings and niece Maggie. Occupation: Domestic Gardener.

Joined the British Army on the 15th of January 1915 at Saint Paul's Churchyard.

Western European Theatre - Medal Awarded: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal - Regiment or Corps: Border Regiment - Regimental Number: 23024 (Originally placed in Royal Regiment of Artillery then transferred to 3rd East Surrey Regiment. Once more transferred to the Border Regiment.)

War record states Ernest was classed as missing on the 19th of May 1917.
