Corey Hood enlisted into the Army more than ten years ago and attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft Sill, OK. Immediately after he went to Ft Benning to attend the Basic Airborne Course. He has served as a Forward Observer, Team Chief, Platoon Sergeant, and an Airborne Instructor. Corey has served five tours of Duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Previous assignments include; Forward Observer in the 3/319th AFAR, Ft Bragg, NC. Team Chief/Squad Leader in the 25th Infantry Division. Airborne Instructor at 1/507th PIR at Ft Benning, GA. A Platoon Sergeant while serving with 3rd BCT 101st Airborne Division Leader Rakkasan's.

During Chicago’s Air & Water Show on Saturday, August 15, 2015, Corey collided with 29-year-old Timmy Holland, an elite diver with the Navy Leap Frogs and then struck a high-rise shortly after. Corey had been in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died just after 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The Navy skydiver Corey collided with suffered a broken leg and is expected to recover.
The Army Golden Knights and Navy Leap Frogs parachute teams were performing what is known as a "bomb burst" Saturday when the collision occurred, Golden Knights spokeswoman Donna Dixon said. During the stunt, parachutists fall with red smoke trailing from packs and then separate, creating a colorful visual in the sky.
Dixon said Corey collided with a member of the Navy's precision skydiving team.
"Hood was knocked unconscious which resulted in an uncontrolled offsite landing," she said in a statement.
In a statement released Sunday night, U.S. Army parachute team Lt. Col Matthew Weinrich said, "Our focus right now is on supporting Corey’s family and grieving for our teammate. As soldiers, there are risks every day in what we do, but you do everything you can to minimize those risks and it is extremely hard when that is not enough. The Knights are a very close knit team and the military skydiving community is equally close; we will support Corey’s family and each other during this difficult time."
