Mrs. Carrie (Spiker from previous marriage to Lewis Willard Spiker) Styers was the second wife of my great-grandfather David S. Styers.
They married in 1934, in the state of West Virginia where they also resided. I believe it was the second marriage for both.
Carrie and David did not have any children together but Carrie was definitely step mother to her new husband's children: my grandpa David Jr, Ethel and Anna. The obituary only mentions three of the Styers children. There were others but were either dead by that time or not in touch with the family.
Carrie Yost Spiker Styers was the daughter of Charles and Hesty (Stotler) Yost. Born in Morgan County, West Virginia.
Sister of Mary Flenner, Ethel Barker, Elizabeth Lynch and Violet Sarris. Half sister of Tom Stotler.
In the obituary published on the Cumberland Evening News, it says Carrie was taken to Morgan County War Memorial Hospital where she died shortly after at the age of 68 years old.
Though she was not the biological mother to her husband's children, the obituary makes no mention of it and writes as if the children were her own which they were after all, she was their step mother. Obituary mentions that at the time of her death, Carrie had 8 grandchildren.
