Armour Peter Wilson, named after his two grandfathers, William Armour Wilson and Peter Smoyer, was my mother's uncle, although he died before she was born. By all accounts, he was an upstanding young man, full of life and promise. Armour and his father were each taking a wagon loaded with grain to market in Lockport, Niagara County, NY. Armour's team was spooked and, in trying to control them, Armour was pulled off the wagon, which then ran over him. A passing stranger, former Niagara County clerk Matthew Walsh or Welsh, took him to the hospital in his car, but the damage was done. Asking to see his mother, Mary Catherine (Smoyer) Wilson, Armour declared that he was ready to go home. He died the next day.
