Driver killed in crash - second motorist leaves scene
Salt Lake Tribune

One driver was killed early Friday on Interstate 15, and a second driver - who allegedly left the crash scene - was booked into the Juab County Jail, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.
David Nypower, 59, Bluffdale, died when he drove his car into the rear end of a northbound dump truck loaded with scrap metal. Nypower's passenger, Alice Clark, 56, of Tooele, suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred about 2:35 a.m. about 11 miles north of Nephi.
Realizing his truck and trailer had been rear-ended, the 53-year-old truck driver stopped, saw what had happened, then drove away, said DPS spokesman Derek Jensen. The driver was stopped by a Payson City police officer after exiting the freeway at Santaquin.
The truck driver was being investigated for leaving the scene of injury accident, a class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail. He was also cited for no seat belt, no log book, no safety inspection and for a violation of his oversize permit.
The driver claimed he was driving 50 to 55 mph at the time of the crash. It was unknown why Nypower, who was traveling at a faster rate, hit the truck.
