1. Maj. John Allen born in Armagh Co., Ireland, 1732, died

in Frederick Co., Va., 1794.

He married Ann Polick, later spelled POLK, the same family as President Polk in Carlisle, Pa. in 1760.

Ann was born in 1743 and died in Shelby Co., Ky. 1805.

Her parents are probably Dr. Thomas Pollock and Mary COCHRANE of Ireland.

They had 9 children; -Robert Polk ALLEN, John ALLEN, Deborah ALLEN, Thomas ALLEN, Washington ALLEN, James David ALLEN, Ann ALLEN, Elizabeth ALLEN and Martha ALLEN.

Ann and sons, Robert, John, Thomas and Washington were in Shelby Co., Ky. by 1795 when Robert purchased a 350 acre tract of land, this tract is included in the present day Allen Dale Farm, still in the possession of Allen descendants.

Ann lived there until her death in 1805.

Washington Allen settled about eight miles from Shelbyville on the same road.

Thomas and John Allen settled on adjoining tracts about ten southwest of

Shelbyville on Plum Creek, near Plum Creek Church.

The brothers married daughters of distinguished Williamsburg planter Joseph HORNSBY, who had brought his family to Shelby County about the same time as Ann and her family arrived.
