Robert N. "Bob" Alderman, longtime Iowa City area businessperson, died Saturday, December 25, 2004, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City at the age of 81 years.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6pm Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, everyone is welcome. Family services will be held at a later time. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bob's memory to Iowa City Hospice or the Holden Cancer Center c/o University of Iowa Foundation.
Robert Newton Alderman was born November 15, 1923, in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of Grover and Nell (Newton) Alderman. Following graduation from high school, Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II. On December 30, 1947, Bob married Cora Clem in Davenport, Iowa. The next year he received his BSC degree from the University of Iowa. He became an Independent Insurance Agent, and was in business as the original owner of what is now AW Welt Ambrisco Insurance Company of Iowa City retiring after 42 years.of service. Bob believed in community and his profession, being active in many civic and professional organizations throughout the years, including, the Elks Club, Optimist Club of Iowa City serving as president, Independent Insurance Agents of America, and Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa having served as past State President and State National President.
His family includes his wife "Clem"; son and his wife, John T Alderman and Stephanie of Iowa City and their daughter, Mary Nell; daughters and their husbands, Barbara Jean Acker and Mark of Hailey, Idaho, and Catherine Marie Norris and Ken of Raleigh, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bruce Warren Alderman, infant daughter, Virginia Nell Alderman, and a granddaughter.
