Bobby Gene Ashby Sr., 66, of 2929 Dyer Store Road, Martinsville, died Nov. 30, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Salem.
A Virginia native, he was a son of the late William Andrew Ashby and Vera Martin Ashby. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ashby Draper, and a brother, Cecil William Ashby.
He served for two years in Japan with the Air Force, and was formerly employed by the Henry County Sheriff's Office. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Cindy Ashby Herndon of Roanoke; one son, Bobby Gene Ashby Jr. of Rustburg; one sister, Lois Ashby Johnson of Martinsville; two brothers, Buford Randolph Ashby of Martinsville and Charles Eddie Ashby of Chatmoss, Martinsville; and one granddaughter.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Revs. Joe Missick and Harold Draper officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Norris Funeral Services.
