CHEROKEE CLAIMS - GOING SNAKE DISTRICT - 1842 - #75 To Scinthia Ledbetter, late of Hickory Log District, Cherokee Nation East, removed by water in 1832 under the Supt. B. F. Curry, and now resides in Going Snake District Cherokee Nation.
1817 - for amount due me from a white man $125.00
1826 - 1 young mare $100.00
$200.00
Scinthia Ledbetter being duly sworn states she is the only heir of James Dougherty, her father, he died about twelve years ago and the above amount charged due me from a white man is for money that my father loaned in his lifetime to a white man named George McDuffie who after he had borrowed money in the year 1817, he ran off without paying back the money for which the note is still standing against said McDuffie, in the year 1824 my father had two horses stolen from him, the above young mare charged was one of them, the horse my father got back from the white man that had stolen them, but the mare has never been recovered and my father never did receive any pay for either of the above charges in his life time.
Sworn & Subscribed before me Scinthia Ledbetter (her X mark) This 9th of April 1842
