Mr Chicken was found in December 1996, his feet frozen after being left outside in a storm. Originally called "Col. Sanders," he was adopted by a local vet and was fitted with acrylic legs and feet over his stumps that allowed him to move freely. Used as a blood donor for a surgery on a parrot, he became a minor celebrity after his story was printed in newspapers and magazines around the world but he died only six months later, probably the victim of a raccoon attack. He was buried with his plastic legs on in the animal hospital's flower garden, his grave marked by a small headstone.
