Mother of Rev.Thomas Highsmith Harris - Cumberland Presbyterian Minister in Lisbon. Came to Texas with his family from family record information in 1857 when they came to Texas. This information was provided by a Taylor descendant.
Pieces of unreadable marker found beneath rotted remains of large fallen tree is thought to be her grave. Per 1933 Dallas Morning News account she came to TX after her husband Rev. Wiiliam Harris, Cumberland Presbyterian Minister, died 1845 in KY. Came to TX with son Thomas H. Harris and his wife (her daughter-in-law) Martha Elizabeth SKILES Harris. Mother Harris is buried next to Martha in Floyd-Taylor Cemetery, and their large family.
They settled on 640 ac. Smith Elkins Abst 430 which they purchased. Thomas and Martha Harris sold 200 ac to dau. Sarah Alcina and husband James H. Taylor ( both buried here ) and 100 ac. to dau. Nancy Malvina
( buried here ) and husband Absalom C Matlock in 1857.
Conflicting dates of death for Nancy H Harris: either 1863 or 1864
*We are most certain that Mother Harris is buried with her Son's Family here at Floyd-Taylor Cemetery. There was not a way back then to take her back to Kentucky to rest beside her husband Reverend William Harris.

UPDATE November 2014: I don't want to worry you to death but I was looking for Nancy again in the 1860 census. Yesterday I found her age 79 in Simpson County but she said she was born in VA. I know census records can be incorrect and I thought maybe this is the case. Today I looked again and I found Nancy in Warren County not living with her son Alexander Chapman but the next entry in the 1860 census age 79. Since I found her in 1850 in Warren County living with her daughter Nancy Blewett and again in 1860 in Warren I feel certain she died in Kentucky and is buried under her stone in Pilot Knob next to her husband. If you want to keep your entry for her in Texas that is alright with me. I just want her son Thomas listed on my memorial for Nancy, it was only put on your memorial for her. Also someone has listed a Henry born 1815 as a son. He cannot be a son, I have located all of the children of William and Nancy except S.G. and they all fit into the early census records. I have tried to contact the person that entered Henry as a son and asked him where he had proof of this but have heard nothing from him. Since I transferred this memorial to you would you contact findagrave and ask them to remove Henry? Thanks --

"In the fall of 1864, in company with my wife, I made a visit to my dear mother [Nancy Highsmith Harris]. The cruel war was upon us, and times were perilous, but I felt that I must see her once more. We found her in ordinary health, though feeble. I preached for her; she was very happy, filled with God's love. A holy radiance shone in her countenance. Who can estimate the value of a pious mother? Her presence is a benediction. On the 28th of October, I bade her farewell, assured that our next meeting would be in the General Assembly and Church of the first-born. She gave me her blessing, and on the 2d of November died suddenly. My memory comes up freighted with the past."
