Eldred Leroy Oliver departed this life on June 7, 1994, in Springfield, Colorado. he was 78.
He was born on May 7, 1916, to Pleasant and Bessie Yandell Oliver in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Also born to this union were Leon, Charles, and Nita. They and his parents preceded Eldred in death. He is survived by a half-sister, Wilma Poindexter of Sallisaw, OK.
After the death of his mother in 1916, Eldred was raised by his Aunt and Uncle, Mae and Alfred Tinney. This extended family included the following children: Earl, Ernest, John, Goldia, Imogene, Edith, and Lois, which were like brothers and sisters to him. These seven survived him.
Eldred was married to Mary Leuttia Briles on October 31, 1938, in Santa Ana, California. Six children were born to this marriage: Harold Franklin of Springfield, Donald Leroy (Penny) of Denver, Delbert Gene (Robin) of Liberal, Kansas, Melvin Ray (Lorraine) of Rangely, Colorado, Dale Edwin (Lynn) of Joes, Colorado, and Eunice Marie (Ernie Rivale) of Springfield, all of whom survived him. He was also survived by 13 grandchildren who were the light of his life.
After his brief stay in California, he settled in Baca County in 1943. He farmed in the Edler and Pritchett Communities from this time until his death. He took pride in working hard and doing every task well. He was also an employee of the County from 1967 to 1993 during which he maintained roads in western Baca County.
Eldred will be remembered for his patience, his kindness, generosity, strength, and his love of family.
