The son of Louis Henry & Catharine (Davis) Flowers, in 1860 he was a laborer living in Conewago Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 8" tall and had brown hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-four in Lebanon November 6, 1861, and mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. D, 93rd Pennsylvania Infantry. Detached as a wagon guard and hospitalized in mid 1862, he discharged by surgeon's certificate to date March 5, 1863, at Falmouth, Virginia, for deafness and dysentery.

He married Mary H. Hawk and fathered, per a death certificate, Emma H. (b. 12/16/65 - married Solomon Davidson but she appears to be the Anna H. linked below) and Christian H. (b. 05/13/70). He died from "advanced age" and "exhaustion" due to the effects of a fall that fractured the neck of his right femur. Oddly, no obituary for him could be found online despite the Dauphin County area being well covered in online newspaper archives.
