The son of David Ober & Anna Elizabeth (Nauman) Brubaker, he married Victoria Dollar and fathered the children you see linked below. In 1860, he was a farmer living with his family in Derry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Hummelstown July 31, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 9 as a private with Co. C, 127th Pennsylvania Infantry. Seriously wounded in the right leg at the battle of Fredericksburg on December 13, 1862, surgeons were forced to amputate, and he was admitted to Emory U.S. Hospital in Washington DC. He honorably discharged May 29, 1863, the same date as the rest of his company.

His death was announced with a mere one-sentence notice in the Harrisburg Telegraph that says only that he was "buried with the honors of war."
