A Civil War veteran, he was drafted at the oddly overstated age of twenty-eight in Dauphin County October 29, 1862, mustered into service,federal service at Harrisburg November 3, 1862. Mustered out3 as a private with Company,Co. C, 177th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company August 5, 1863.
For the last fourteen years of his life, he resided with his niece Mrs. H. E. Sanderson and died at her home from "chronic nephritis." His obituary in the Harrisburg Daily Independent mentions only a sister as remaining family.
