He married Mary Alleman and fathered John (b. 01/28/62), Robert (b. 03/17/69), and Thomas (b. 10/16/74. In 1860, they were presumably living in Hummelstown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, although they are not found with certainty in the census.

A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service:
1. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-nine in Hummelstown July 28, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 9 as a corporal with Co. C, 127th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 29, 1863. His wife Mary traveled with the regiment serving as a nurse.
2. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-seven [sic] in Harrisburg with the regular army February 27, 1864, and assigned to Co. C, 4th U.S. Infantry. He honorably discharged at term's end February 20, 1867, at Plattsburg, New York, a private. Why he was discharged a week early is unknown.

Despite the rank of sergeant shown on the tombstone, there is as yet no evidence he ever held that rank in either term of service. If he did hold that rank during his second stint of service, he had to have been reduced to ranks prior to his discharge.

He married Mary Allerman, who on July 5, 1890, applied for a widow's pension and received it. No obituary was found in any online newspaper archive. The death year shown here is unverified.
