The son of George & Barbara (Sipe) Keller, in 1860 was a laborer living with and/or working for the Henry Shope family in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 8" tall and had light hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-one and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg March 7, 1865, as a private with the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry in the second organization of Co. I, and honorably discharged with his company June 29, 1865.

He married Susan Gipe or Geib in 1871 and fathered Albert G. (b. 02/22/72), Anna Mary (b. 12/09/74 - married Joseph M. Brandt), and Alice Gipe (b. 01/09/83). Cause of his death is listed as "hypertrophy of heart with mitral insufficiency with general dropsy."
