A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 9, 1864, as a private with Co. I, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd )a), and honorably discharged with his company May 29,1865.
He also enlisted in the post-war regular army at Harrisburg August 9, 1867, assigned to Co. G, 43rd U.S. Infantry, and also served with Co. G, 1st U.S. Infantry after the army reorganized. He honorably discharged at term's end August 9, 1870, at either Fort Porter or Fort Parker, New York, a private.
He died in Harrisburg Hospital from "uremia" with "arteriosclerosis" a contributing factor. At his death, he was a resident of Pennbrook, Dauphin County.
