Pfc. Colburn of Frankfort, Ohio was last home on leave in February, and told family and friends things were going well in the Army. He attended Adena High School where he played basketball and was a quiet person with great physical energy. The Army was going to provide his ticket to the world and he was very attracted to the education portion where he could possibly go to college once he got out. He was a kid with a plan and the Army was part of that plan. His awards and decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device and Army Reserve Ribbon. Specialist Colburn is being recommended for a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He is survived by his mother, Tina Stevens, Father, Tony Colburn, brother Matthew Colburn and fiancee Sarah Kern. Gavin was honored in a ceremony in July 2007 to dedicate the U.S. Army Reserve Center's drill hall on Western Avenue in Chillicothe, OH to him. He died along a supply route in Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle at age 20.
